9th Report: Lithuania - Estonia

It's raining again and we sit in a WiFi zone of a campsite. This time in the capital of Estonia, Tallinn. Yes, our journey has brought us there yet and if the ferry is not booked up tomorrow, we'd have to leave tomorrow the Baltic States. So we still remain two more days to jump on the big wet to Finland.

Latvia

with Anina we traveled three days north-western coast of Latvia. After picking up from the airport we visited the Engures Lake wild horses and cattle, and made equal with the local Anina Bremen known. We had to do the same again after 15 minutes round trip and were able to then enjoy thanks to anti-hum at the second attempt after all. Then it went up the coast towards the headland where collide the Riga Sea and the Baltic Sea. For the night we handed now no easy parking more because Anina slept in our tent. We found a first sleeping place by the sea, but that did not invite algige water for bathing. But we listened to news from Switzerland and played Tantrix, which we had met at Becky and Will and Anina "ordered".

Despite dark clouds and some rain drops, we let ourselves miss the walk to the headland in Kolka not and went to lunch at the Büssli on bumpy path along the impressive cliffs of Jurkalne. The next day we went inland, where we visited the village in Kuldiga, the visitor attraction, a water level in the river could not be missing.

The next day we set Anina from Riga and asked for a coffee notes with horror that we had the first buses on Büssli. Apparently the parking was not free, but the icon was no parking meter, and the text of which we do not understand.

southeast of Riga, we visited the memorial in Salaspils. The memorial was erected by the Soviets in 1967 on the territory of the former concentration camps. In a block of stone suggests a metronome, a symbol of the heart beat of more than 100,000 people killed. The Bu-Bumm dependent on the whole area, which is very depressing acts. On display are the five huge statues made of concrete (typical Soviet).

Then us the trip to Sigulda was very welcome. The Gauja National Park there will be wonderful walks. But unfortunately the limited information that we received on small "Touri" walks. We, however, was more like a day hike to mute, so we decided to visit the castle ruins and the Order of the park to proceed.

Meli then chose the perfect place to sleep on a lake. The Driska Lake is in the midst of a pine forest, has a red dye from the bog Water and about twice as large as the Katzensee. Initially, some weekend guests at the lake, but the subject slowly but surely and we had early on Sunday morning the lake to ourselves. A dream. We decided immediately to insert a rest day, read in the hammock and enjoyed swimming in the lake. As a climax we were on a walk even chanterelles and blueberries for dinner. Ans of course was walking out of the question, only to the collection ...

The next day was back on the agenda sightseeing. In Cesis, we visited the great castle. We could lanterns with candles in the walls around increase, which was also visiting medieval atmosphere. Otherwise the town is nice, but we took a tip from a woman Driska Lake in the old brew house, where a contemporary young artist exhibition toured with some big systems. After a shopping back in Büssli we got a fright. At the car window again stuck a suspicious note. Not another bus! But it was just a holiday greeting from dear Christina, Katrina and Anne from Lachen SZ. Thank you very much, unfortunately, we have encountered personally.

On the way to Museum of Baron von Munchausen, we followed the tip of the Touriinfo and filled our water containers at a spring in a valley where you will even see beaver lodges. Of those, unfortunately, we saw nothing, but we found a little further back in the valley sandstone rocks with inscriptions. Probably, wedding couples since at least 1839 scratch their names into the stone.

Munchausen The museum was unfortunately more of a letdown. There were "only" set up a space in which figures and objects from the stories of Baron (such as ducks on a string, which the Lord has "threaded" Baron with a pork rind). Sorry, but no information about the fictional stories. Also praised the walk through the nearby forest to the sea, are also characters from Munchausen's life was shown, although seen natural moderately good, but not about the stories rather boring.

Correct The roads are in Estonia probably best to talk (in comparison to the two other Baltic States). In Rouge we had about various walks (again, no one-day hikes, arghhhh ...), the area visited by a modern tower with 3 kW wind turbine and decided the next day for a walk to extend the shape of the last ice age lakes along so that it 15 km long has been (we are not organized repatriation). But before we went to the highest point in the Baltic states, who make up fewer than 318 m. On the Suura Munamägi we enjoyed the view from the 29 m high observation tower (Hooray we are on 346 m. \u200b\u200babove sea level). Spent the night we are well on the highest pass, about 50 m below the tower.

The observation tower - view over the Baltic states.

The walk along the lake began with a part of the energy path of Rouge. We saw next to the aforementioned windmill "hydraulic rams. This is an old technique to water means water pressure in the air to spray and irrigate fields. Unfortunately, the method consumes a little water and they are now actually used anywhere. We were probably the first, which this year took advantage of the trail. In many places we had to fight our way through tall grass. The six lakes were mostly of reeds and Swamp surrounded and bathing would have been possible only to one or two places. The posts were set up but as always in the Baltic perfect. Dock, fireplace, garbage containers and some covered tables. At the end of the hike before lunch we were rewarded with Hinni Canyon, a small sandstone gorge, about 10 m deep and very idyllic. The return trip was less idyllic, because we were hoping for a ride by car stop and walked along the main street. It unfortunately came to nothing, for we were back by the sweat Büssli correct and it was clear that we again need a place to stay by a lake. We found him then at Phüajäry Lake. The lake is considered one of the cleanest Lakes in Estonia and in 1992 was even visited by the Dalai Lama, who blessed him immediately.

On our way towards the Russian border we stayed at the fourth largest lake in Europe, the Peipsi Järv (3'555 km2) which forms the natural border with Russia. On the way, and the subsequent job search, we deepened our Verhältnis zur Ausländischen Polizei gleich zwei Mal.

Auf Melis charmante Lächeln liess er dann jedoch von den Geldforderungen los and chased for another camper who parked behind us.

The beach at Peipsi Järv - disgusting dead fish.

A short time later we were sitting by the lake, which seemed to us more like the sea. You can see the other mainland (Russia) and not the beach has fine sand. Only the number of dead fish (probably from the last storm) destroyed our plans for a bath. So we sat Tantrix-playing was heard on the "sea" when suddenly a police siren in the vicinity of our Büsslis. As Raphael hastened thither, two policemen told him that one could not park between the trees. That we here wanted to stay, deliberately concealed Raphael. When he returned with the terrible news to Melissa, also appeared again the other man. Unfortunately, the understanding worked out in Russian and with hands and feet do not, so he called his son by Mobile. We learned in the meantime that he name is Andrei and realized that he was working hard to give us a place. The son then showed us the private campsite in the family only 50 m away from the forbidden. This time, behind a barrier, where we spent a quiet night.

Oh, that day we had yet another story. Our water was in fact running out and no one could give us a source or provide a well with drinking water. We So try our luck at a campsite and met one of Zurich, who is with the bike on the way to Moscow. After a short chat our cans were full, but unfortunately was not the water quality satisfactory. It smelled moldy anyway. Raphis idea to take water from the Lake Peipsi for potato cooking, we found the vast number of dead fish and many suspended solids not exactly optimal. So there was a picnic for dinner and for the coffee in the morning, we used mineral water, which we were degassed overnight.

The next day we visited the border town of Narva. It lies on the same border to the sides of two giant castles stand. We could of course only consider that on the Estonian side. The mood in the city was quite funny. Somehow, too quiet. You hardly heard a bird whistle. The border control seemed not to go forward. It had a long line of cars and another with pedestrians. Some cars even a glance at the hood was thrown. Somehow impressive. As well, the control would have been with us?

Tallinn On the way we found yet another campground with drinking water. 1st August, we spent the Lahemaa National Park. We walked later in the evening along the forest trail, but found from those occurring bears, moose and lynx only scratches. The forest itself was also very impressive. Something similar to the Bialowietza National Park, but this one was until recently a strictly protected zone. After the forest trail, we enjoyed the evening under the of Meli's brother donated Swiss flag in sausages and potato salad.

Our 1st August feast - the decorated Büssli.

Today we have seen before at the beginning of rain raised Tallinn and our demand for a ferry ticket Helsiniki. The Old Town of Tallinn is marked very medieval and There are many old buildings, churches and urban parts of the wall to see. Audio guide we walked the 3-hour city tour and learned a lot about the origin and development of beautiful Hansestadt.Trotz the many tourists we have the Estonian capital, has fallen in comparison with Vilnius and Riga, the best!

impressions of Tallinn.

Finally, we want to show some of the best beds in the Baltic States:
